A couple new albums to speak of ...
Quantic - One Off's, Remixes, and B Sides
Boozoo Bajou - Jook Joint II
Quite frankly, I just can't get enough of Quantic these days, his beats are just so pristene. As you would expect this is a bit of a whirlwind tour of various things Quantic has worked on since it includes both original works that weren't released on previous albums, as well as remixes of various tracks, etc. Since opening this cd a few days ago I have already become enfatuated with the first track, Archipelago, along with a few others. Do yourself a favor and stay tuned to whatever this guy releases because I swear that he has the golden touch.
September 20, 2006
been a while since I suggested any good beats and that's probably because I have been lacking much in the way of new stuff myself, but a few weeks ago I picked up the new Quantic album along with some other cds and I feel inclined to share.
Quantic - An Announcement to Answer
Ben Watt - Buzzin' Fly Volume 3
Gotan Project - Lunatico
and other notable mentions that I didn't post about over this past year ...
Erlend Oye - Unrest
Thievery Corporation - Versions
Zero 7 - The Garden
You can't go wrong with any of these discs, but my favorite is the new Quantic cd. What can I say, the man is a genius. He fuses together beats from all my favorite styles and makes it sound so organic yet refined that it's just amazing to hear.
Ben Watt delivers the great another great deep house cd, if you're into that, and the new Gotan Project is pretty good as well. I would also highly recommend the Erlend Oye - Unrest cd to any electronica fan. It's an older cd, but very high quality. And Thievery Corp and Zero 7, there's nothing to say really, just buy 'em, they're good =)

I dunno why, but I haven't been keeping up with my music over the last 6 months or so. I think it's because it actually requires a fair amount of effort to search for good new artists and sample their music. I've tried to find places that recommend cds that I like, but most of my sources are still pretty hit and miss, sometimes they work out and other times, well ...
Anyways, a couple new items ...
The Glimmers - DJ Kicks
Colossus - West Oaktown
I really love the Colossus cd. They have a truly great hip-hop style that uses live instruments to provide a much more organic sound than most of the stuff you hear these days. The really cool part is that the cd includes both the normal version *and* a remix cd which has some great tracks in the more standard hip-hop style.
The Glimmers cd is pretty cool as well, but it's a bit on the funky/offbeat side. I don't have a ton of cds in this style, but the closest I could come to a comparison is some of the Felix Da Housecat stuff I have. Fun stuff, if you're in the right mood.

Just haven't been able to keep up these past months :(
Anways, from time to time I'll get out to the record shop and find something I can buy. This is what I've bought in the past few months ...
Dj Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz 2
Dj Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz 3
Dj Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz 4
Prefuse 73 - Surrounded by Silence
Herbert - Bodily Functions
Boozoo Bajou - Dust My Broom
Sasha - Fundacion
Looking back at this list I must say this is a damn fine collection of cds. As you can see I definitely got into the Mushroom Jazz series and I'm lovin' all of them. They get a bit more mello and jazzy as you go farther back in the series. The newer ones have a bit more of a hip hop sound.
The Boozoo Bajou cd is just out of this world. I have the first Boozoo Bajou cd, Satta!, and I love it, but Dust My Broom is even better. It's a fantastic dub cd, so if you are into that then definitely give it a listen.
Sasha is solid as always. Herbert I found on epitonic and is a solid buy. and Prefuse 73 is pretty sweet if you are into that kind of ambient electronic sound similar to Four Tet. Prefuse 73 has more of a hip hop sound to it, but I still find the two groups to be pretty similar.
mmm ... beatastic!
May 5, 2005
been in a buyin' frenzy lately.
DJ Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz 5
Ian Pooley - Souvenirs
Basement Jaxx - The Singles (Limited Edition)
Blue States - Nothing Changes Under the Sun
Various - Hi Fidelity Lounge Vol 4
DJ Cam - DJ Kicks
yum. my biggest suprise was the Mark Farina album. i dunno why, but up until now i was never really impressed by his discs much, but Mushroom Jazz 5 just blew me away. booty bangin' goodness ... ahhh yeah ;) in fact, the only one that let me down was the Hi Fidelity lounge, which just sound really flat and uninteresting to me. Blue States - dope, DJ Cam - dope, Basement Jaxx - dope. can't go wrong ... ya just can't.
happy groovin'
April 22, 2005
Kinda went out on a limb with these. I hadn't listened to any of them before the purchase and 2 of them were totally based on recommendations from Amazon.
Jeremy Ellis - The Lotus Blooms
Butti 49 - Habit
Various - Verve Remixed 3
Ben Watt - Buzzin' Fly Vol 2
An all around good selection to be honest. So far I am diggin' the Jeremy Ellis the most, it's supa funky fresh. Of course you know the Verve Remixed album is good. I was actually expecting the most out of the Buzzin' Fly Vol 2 in this set, but to be honest it just doesn't hold up like the last volume. Maybe it's just me though.
Happy listening.

Should have posted a couple weeks ago ...
Thievery Corporation - The Cosmic Game
Dubtribe Sound System - Baggage
Adani & Wolf - Adani & Wolf
The dZihan & Kamien Orchestra - Live in Vienna
Saint Germain - Lounge
All pretty sweet, however I thought the dZihan & Kamien would have a little more variation from their orignals.
January 30, 2005
Various - Rewind! 4
Various - Destination Lounge: San Francisco
And because of stuff like this i'm gunna hold off from postin' more files until i have it setup a little different.

Daddy G - DJ Kicks
Kings of Convenience - Quiet Is The New Loud

November 24, 2004
I'm a little behind on tunes and in posts since I've been spending so much time upgrading my computer lately. Here's the last set of cds that I got.
Thievery Corporation - Babylon Rewound
DJ Cam - Liquid Hip Hop
UNKLE - Never, Never, Land
This is a pretty diverse selection, but all worthy buys. I was really suprised by the Babylon Rewound cd, which I expected to be not as interesting to me since its a remix cd of an album I already have, but once I heard it I had to buy it. Dubalicious.
DJ Cam - Don Dada | Inflamable Records | Buy
Thievery Corporation - Resolution (rewound by thievery corporation) | Eighteenth Street Lounge Music | Buy
November 8, 2004
Not sure if this song will make you feel like smiling, but i felt like sharing it. Comes off one of my favorite chill albums ... Dzihan & Kamien - Freaks & Icons.
Dzihan & Kamien - Smile | Six Degrees Records | Buy
November 4, 2004
Something I've been meaning to pick up for a while now ...
Kruder & Dorfmeister - DJ Kicks
A very solid mix from the masters themselves.
October 28, 2004
Just can't seem to get enough Miguel Migs stuff these days. Here's his latest release, a nice 2 disc compilation.
Miguel Migs - 24th St. Sounds
The first cd is a mix much like you would expect on a compilation like this. The second cd then features a good selection of NRK works from 2000-2004 ... also very good. Not as unique as the stuff Miguel produces himself on his Naked Music label, but still well wortht the purchase.
October 22, 2004
3 new albums this week ...
Bent - Ariels
Flunk - Morning Star
Various - Park Hyatt Chicago: On the Seventh (King Britt)
I've been waiting for the new Flunk album ever since I discovered For Sleepyheads Only and it's a good follow up. I think I prefer more of the electronic sounds from the first album a little bit more, but Morning Star offers some nice downtempo accoustics. The Bent album is yummy and very different from their last album. So, now something to listen to ...
Flunk - On My Balcony | Home | Buy
Bent - You Are The Oscillator | Buy
October 13, 2004
For a little while now I've been contemplating the idea of posting actual mp3s here on the blog and really the only thing that has kept me from doing it is the *possible* legal ramifications. I seriously doubt anyone would have a problem with me throwing a few mp3s up on my site to try and promote good music and artists I enjoy, but who knows. Should it become a problem then I'll deal with it then, but for now ...
Federico Aubele - Postales from the album Gran Hotel Buenos Aires. Listen, then Buy.
September 19, 2004
Every now and then you have to put yourself at risk a little and buy simply on impulse. Here's what I got ...

January 25, 2004
The Postal Service - Give Up
Frost - Melodica
The Gotan Project - La Revancha del Tango
January 10, 2004
I was in the mood to branch out today in the music store.
Atmosphere - Seven's Travels
Galleon - So I Begin
The atmosphere cd is a hip-hop cd I got a tip about, and its very good. Hopefully this will lead to more hip-hop cds. Galleon is a tough one to classify. The comment at the listening booth sayd "Duran Duran meets Daft Punk" ... I guess it's true, but I like the sound.
Just keep breathing. -- Al G

August 1, 2003
These past 2 weeks have been pure beatmania for me. There is little that is more satisfying than discovering a great new cd. Aside from kcrw which takes care of my nights for the most part, I have picked up these recently.
Thievery Corporation - The Mirror Conspiracy ... a must have. this has been on pretty much every day since I got it.
Miguel Migs - Nude Tempo One ... i prefer Colorful You, but this is a great cd.
Deep Dish - UG #025: Toronto ... a solid deep house cd.
ahhh ... and a whole lot more. its so nice when the music never has to stop!
